Anyone else going through denial about tonight?
It's just a building - right?

I am an intelligent logical man so why would I get emotional about moving house?

Because since 1904 Upton Park provided that bit of hope, escapism for primarily poor working people who, every two weeks were able to forget the harsh environments post wars and depression and unite with others who shared the same passions, and tribulations. It was a fortnightly one day mental holiday and no matter the outcome it was something to look forward to.

The Club does not die today indeed it is in a great position to thrive so for me I will now my head in respect to past family members and friends who will not be going to the new stadium. However when I see that my sons passion is as strong as mine I know that the legacy and spirit of the Boleyn Ground does not die today. So it is a celebration of triumph over adversity that will make me nod my head as I leave the ground today

He's bang on regarding the transformation of the club and the demographic of the fans though.
I won't miss the current Boleyn, nor the unrecognisable Marks and Sparks mannequins who now infest it.

` I’m a traditionalist at heart but nothing can last forever`.

Might as well start smashing up the Tower of London and the Royal Albert hall then... and replace them with nice shiny Hotpointy' places then...

You must keep positive. I’m a traditionalist at heart but nothing can last forever.

I went to my first game in 1958 so if I can keep my chin up so should most of you.

So many memories but most, like my dreams, they fade and die.

Yes, I will retain some great moments and over my time I witnessed all the changes. Only the East Stand remains from my boyhood days.

The club was founded and imbedded in East End culture and working life. Men came out of the docks to watch West Ham. It was purely a working class and family run club then.

That is long gone, so for me it is just another transition.

Keep the faith. The West Ham way, the spirit of the club, is in every one of you. The stadium is only the stage it is played out on.

Just hope we go out with a bang in the stands tonight, nothing like we were against them in the replay. An early goal should see the place absolutely bouncing.

Highbury had 3 world cup winners in the same team Chim, just a shame they were French cunts!! ;o)

I know many are happy to be moving, but I gave up my season ticket the season after it had been announced we'd won the OS, as for me it's just one of the episodes in football which I hate and after going to all of the teams new stadiums around England, there's just something about them all that I have hated.

No history and no soul, so I guess we just have to pray that our supporters don't let that happen.

Every UK visit always drive by old school, house so now add Green Street to the list. You can take stadiums away but you cannot take so many memories.

Bizarrely I switched Breakfast TV on this morning and my first thought was, 'I hope The Queen or Prince Philip haven't died overnight. That would put the mockers on it'...

Re: Anyone else going through denial about tonight?
Is there an equivalent to what happens tonight anywhere else in the world ever?

A grand old stadium that has hosted every great player in English league football ever including 3 World Cup winners- a feat that is unlikely to happen again in our lifetime? A ground mismanaged and underinvested in to the point that it was only ever half finished and situated in an area almost totally devoid of the fans that grew up in the shadow of the stadium?

An area abandoned by the once indigenous population the Boleyn ground was built to serve and entertain, leaving a wave of new poor who don't support the club, don't like their supporters (who don't contribute a single penny to their shops and businesses) and see the supporters swarming in once every fortnight as a massive pain in the arse. The supporters really don't like the new indigenous population either.

I think it was Oscar Wilde who said 'an Irishman would do anything for his country except live in it' and I think that's how we view 'our' East End. Not many of us will ever use Upton Park station after tonight and the people who now live there will breath a huge sigh of relief.

Singularly though, this is a subject that the press will studiously ignore even though it's of massive importance. Newham was the first borough in Britain to have a white, British minority and despite the sadness of leaving the cathedral we've worshipped at (in my case for over forty years) the streets I played in as a kid are almost unrecognisable now.

We'll miss the Boleyn but we won't miss almost anything else. The cheap phone-cover shops, African wig shops, Halal butchers and people scrabbling over a huge pile of shoes looking for a matching pair for two quid.

There can't be many grounds where 35,000 people suddenly stop going to and the only business' put out are six or seven pubs and a pie mash shop?

I'm guessing it's a story that will never be told because it's such a minefield.

Im excited for the party tonight. Been a wonderful home but we are going onto bigger and better and the future is very bright.

Course there are lots and lots of memories and tonight will be emotional for sure as bubbles rings out for the last time, but we all knew this day was coming and i will embrace and enjoy it and bid the Boleyn a fond farewell rather than be gutted and depressed and going into a state of mourning.

I've been going for over fifty years. How do I feel well I've always been positive and I'm positive about the move.Of course it will be strange not going there ever again but life moves on.If you want this club to be up there with the best we had to move.If we get a great start next season and the crowd are behind the team we will all feel so much better.

Terrific post ,

Says it all for so many of us. I cant get there today, and my last visit was the Watford game - which I used to say farewell to so many friends, family and players that all shared the same love of this great club of ours.
